Canadian made...eh?

beats:: drake - find your love (it's on constant replay...he's so dreamy!)

OOTD:: Black Jacob Dress shirt, White Jacob short-sleeved sweater, Black pin-striped Zara dress pants and cream ankle boots.

fave fashion accessory of the day/moment:: my socks =) don't ask!

I recognize the usual US brands such as Juicy, Abercrombie or even Louis Vuitton (for all you classier ladies)...There is however, a rise in the popularity of Canadian designer labels as well.  I bet if you look around even in the trendier california, you will find some Canadian labels you didn't expect were even Canadian!

The most famous Canadian to US takeover was the very first department store in Canada which started more than 300 years ago by fur and pelt traders.  The Hudson's Bay Company, of which I was fortunate enough to have been a former employee, is purely Canadian in roots.

But aside from HBC, do you any other designers that have struck gold in both sides of the border!?

The most notable ones that i've come across recently would be Aritzia , Lulu Lemon and Pink Tartan.  They all range in prices (Pink Tartan being the most pricey at $300 for a dress shirt!?) and in style of clothing sold.  They are all unique which is what caught the eye of the even some celebrities...I remember reading the Aritzia blog and seeing celebrities shopping away at the Robson Aritzia store and thinking, wow I shop there too!  It's nice to see that our neighbours from across the border appreciate and recognize Canadian talent as well!

Do you know of any designers that have successfully made it across the border?

Fashion Name Game

Name dropping is time-honoured tradition of those  yearning to get well connected itching to go places in record time....If you want to climb the social ladder, as someone has said before "it's not what you know, it's who you know"...Ain't that the truth these days....

My recent increase in fashion and fashion related news has gotten the best of me finally...

I've taken to name-dropping to myself about the names i've come across in various forms of media of who is important in the fashion world...becoming ever so curious about fashion's who's who and their position in the hierarchy of the fashion world.

It's been mentioned that the medium of television and the reality show format has increased attention on the ones behind the scenes who would otherwise stay behind the scenes.  There are those that enjoy the spotlight and glow in the bask of popularity, but there are those that shun the spotlight and take it for what it is, their 5 minutes of fame....

From the magazine goliath 'Vogue' which has been named the fashion bible comes Anna Wintour, the cut-throat Editor-in-Chief who has earned a reputation as much for how she runs the magazine as much as her undeniable great fashion taste.  It certainly doesn't hurt that she was the basis for the character of the Editor-in-Chief played by Meryl Streep in 'The Devil Wears Prada'.  Then there's the Editor-at-Large with an even larger reputation for great taste in the finer luxurious items and an even greater eye for fashion, Andre Leon Talley.  To have worked with Andy Warhol, an opportunity that I've read in an interview, gave him the break of his career.

There's also the Fashion Magazine house of  'Elle' Magazine, which has had a great boost in reputation from the show 'The City' receiving a greater storyline in the second season, with it's ever-so hopeful Creative Director Joe Zee along with his Director of Public Relations, Erin Kaplan.  Of course, who can forget the troublesome but well-connected Olivia Palermo, who at best has pushed her social stock with her spats with fellow co-worker Erin.

These names are fixtures in the front rows of Fashion Week in New York City.  They can be seen, full team in tow to let their presence be known and represent their respective magazines to make sure that fashion trends and styles are reported on in a timely manner to lowly people like me, who admire and get inspired from their magazines...

Only, if you're not a Fashion Week fixture, you live in another country, or better yet suburbia and have a totally cut-off connection from New York and all of it's fashion greatness, who are these people to you?

Do you trust that they bring you the up-to-date fashion styles and give you the best opinion on the trends and styles that are sure to make you a hit for the next season, if not the current season?  Do you even know if these people themselves have the style to carry off in their daily lives, as sort of 'practice what you preach' if you will?

Being into fahion isn't just about the latest runway look that you can sport anymore, it's the behind the scenes work that it takes a team to make a runway fashion show work.  I like the gritty details of what happens to produce a magazine, or even a photo shoot...I want to know what happens behind the scenes that produces the end product of a great cover or a layout in the magazine that catches my eye....These are also what interest me in the industry...These people that i've mentioned run high in the hierarchy and are on the pulse of what's in and hot in fashion.  They know what it takes to make a magazine great...and therefore they interest me.

What interests you about fashion?

fave fashion accessory of the day/moment::

I mentioned more than once that I was going to give away some clothes that I haven't quite used but didn't really wear anymore.  I once erronously called them fashion mistakes, but not really.  I still love them, I just have no need for them.  I now affectionately refer to them as 'over-purchases'.  I am true to form, one of those that impulse buy, and as a result, have filled a closet, a cabinet and a dresser drawer full of clothes, half of which have hardly ever been used.  Hardly any of them are mistakes, I do tend to only buy what suits my taste...but proven fact is that taste constantly changes, much like fashion trends.

So I recently decided to go through my clothes and see what I could give away, guilt-free.

I may not be able to make it to a consignment store any time soon, but I do have some others that can still be sold....These are however, the clothes that I thought some family members may end up liking so why not give them away? I don't feel bad....The money is already spent...There is also no guarantee that all the clothes I bring to the consignment store are going to be bought by the store so I don't mind giving some away.

As far as sizes go, unfortunately I'm more similarly built to my younger cousin than the older one, so I was able to give the young'un more clothes.  Still, I hope they are both happy with their new clothes....Afterall...

One person's junk is another person's treasure...

(only in this case, it's not really junk, it's new un-used clothes!)

I thought since I'm always showing clothes, I might want to share some of my recent jewelry faves...

I love fashion jewelry and for now, I'm more on quantity more than quality since losing some precious valuables have soured me on the idea of wearing expensive jewelry.

Anyways, here are some of my few inexpensive but cute jewelry that helps to make my wardrobe pull together!
Aldo Gold Leaf earrings
2B gold chains necklace
Le Chateau Plastic Gold hoop earrings
Guess Silver Snake Bracelet

Foreve 21 pink necklace
Le Chateau Shell earrings

Forever 21 crystal ring
Forever 21 flower ring

Stone coloured Necklace

Teal Necklace:
(L) Forever 21 (R) Le Chateau

It's a mix of the ones I wear for lounging and clubbing and the ones that are more for office wear...I may be somewhat conservative in terms of wardrobe most times, but I try to be more creative and try to venture out of my usual black and white standard.

You don't always have to have the most eye-catching dress, it can be a bag, shoes or even jewelry that can complete the look into a heart-stopping outfit!

more mustard please!

OOTD:: my house clothes...aka my old highschool PE uniform! haha

fave fashion accessory of the day/moment:: my laptop =)

Okay, so a few entries back, I mentioned that mustard yellow is such a hot colour for this spring/summer season.

I have since collected a few items that I've fallen inlove with that will add some *POP!* to my wardrobe =)
CLN (Celine) Sandals in gold *LOVE!* It's soo cute...Bought in the Phils (unexpectedly!) while I was perusing for a bag to buy, I am luvin the cuteness of these 'cinderella-esque' vibe! It's perfect for the warmer seasons, comfy slip-ons and a lower heel for a less painful night!
I simply love the colour of this bag! It's big but that's how I love my bags! J'adore! the colour is bright but it's burnt yellow so it's not so pastel-like....It fits my most essential of goods and is stylish...Found at Forever 21 =)
Wasn't I just talking about a pop of colour for simple bland coloured linens? I love love love this colour for linen shorts...It's just screams sunny weather! it's a nice alternative to the normal cream or white that's so common...It also came in a hot pink colour if you prefer the pinks!

I love my weekend mall jaunts...They provide hours of window shopping pleasure, plus when I'm lucky like I have been the last few months, I can find some great finds at the mall that will just add some life to my wardrobe!

The last two items were below $15 from forever 21 by the way, so you don't have to be rich to have style!

Happy Shopping!~*

So now that I've vented out on my great sandals disappointment, I thought I should liven things up with something more befitting with the weather.

I realize that with summer now just a week away, people are starting to bring out the summer wear, the staples that you will see throughout the coming months of intense heat.  One of them being the linen-- well really almost anything! lol.  Linen shirts, shorts, skirts, pants...the list goes on.

The whites, and khakis and stone coloured linen clothes will be taken out from the back part of the closet, dusted and dry-cleaned or hand-washed (ha! fat chance lol) and once again will be one of the must-have staples for summer.

As fun as that sounds, however, I think that what's caught my eye on the linen craze is the new spin that some trendy younger-ish shops are doing.  It's not so much a new spin, but just revamping the old lighter coloured linens into fresh bright colours that match the trend for spring/summer 2010.
I recently bought a pair of linen shorts that were so cute, it was hard to resist!  They were a pair of mustard coloured linen shorts with cuffs...so cute and a great alternative to the lighter colours, but yet not quite as dark as black.

As much as I do love my whites for summertime, there is nothing wrong with venturing into a little bit of colour to brighten the summer wardrobe!  Red isn't the only colour to help make your wardrobe pop anymore....

Fashion Lesson: Quantity vs. Quality

beats:: some kesha song that's playing in my head over and again.

OOTD:: Marciano Bandage multi-striped Dress, Nine West black and cream mjs and Jacob 3/4 sleeve black cardigan.

fave fashion accessory of the day/moment:: my chanel sunglasses! =)

So last week I got a very important lesson in quantity vs. quality.  I guess once in awhile, I do so need that swift kick in the toosh to remind me that things won't always be what they seem.  What may appear to look good on the surface, and seem like a deal, won't necessarily be.

I bought some sandals not too long ago from one of the more trendy but cheaper stores in the mall, Urban Planet.  This place is known for it's mega quantity, poor quality clothes, but I figured that it's sandals, I'm sure it wasn't going to be that bad.  It was cute, and the last one in the racks, not to mention it was in my size.  I thought that this was a sign....and so I bought the darned thing.

In the end, it wasn't so much of a deal, considering I must've paid around $22 including tax for the sandals, they should've at least lasted me till the end of summer right!? NOPE.  One use later, I'm now attempting to glue the soles together again, after splitting on me after one day's use.

WTF!?

Ladies beware.  A deal isn't always a deal, unless you are sure that the quality isn't crap.  Then again, no matter what the price, you'll always encounter a defect at some point in your shopping life.  It's just a matter of what that retailer will do for you once you do encounter the defect.

I am now at a loss.  This store isn't normally one for 'customer service'...Certainly not one that will try to help you out by replacing it with one that isn't faulty.  I am left with these sandals, forced to try to fix them after wasting enough money already buying them in the first place.

Again i say, BEWARE.

Don't always be fooled by the 'cheaper prices for similar fashions' sell.  There are times when it may be worth your while, but there are more times it just may not be.

Weight out your options and choose wisely.  Don't be fooled by the trendy cutesy stuff.  No matter how cute they are on you, they won't make a damned difference if they break one use later.

I certainly wish I did....

Where you'll be finding me at lunch time is at the local drug store, trying to find a super glue that will repair my cheap quality but not so cheap priced sandals.

boo.

summer treasures: doing away with summer wardrobe's past and sayin' hello to the future! =)

fave fashion accessory of the day/moment:: nothing...too sleepy to think!

Summer is 12 days away, and the countdown is getting exciting.

I am anticipating the return of the summer heat by browsing through both my own closet (for my summer staples) and the stores (both online and in store) to find the perfect summer 2010 wardrobe.  There is nothing wrong, afterall, with looking good while trying to beat the heat!

There are defiintely some returning faves, some summer dresses that have yet to be worn and those that I couldn't live without last summer.  I also found out last fall that upon putting my summer clothes into storage for the upcoming cooler winter season, I had oodles upon oodles of Abercrombie and Hollister tops that have yet to be worn, or were just too young for my taste!  At the age that I am, it's not as easy to pull off some of the styles that I have collected over the last few years.  I hate to admit, but I think I may have even gone overboard with some of my summer tops. *yikes!*

So, this spring, I plan to sit myself down in my room and go through the summer stuff I have collected.  There are tons of clothes that can be donated, sold to consignment stores or even just given away to family.  There are a few things that have yet to be worn, others that are sort of tattered that it should really be thrown away, and some that I will have to painfully part with.

I realize now that with my change adapting to suit the age I am now, so does my wardrobe.

Now, with that being explained, don't get me wrong, I still plan on rockin' some of my summer gear from Abercrombie! Heck yesss! There is no sense in wasting away dozens of tops already collected and still suit my taste and is age appropriate.  I just have to trim some from my collection and add the new styles I've collected this year!

Soooo Summer ready!!~*

OOTD:: again, my jammies!

fave fashion accessory of the day/moment::

Okay so the rain has been coming down so much, it's hard to believe it's even spring! I think someone has done alot of rain dancing the last couple of weeks...

I am soooo done with the dreary, rainy weather....Bring on the sunshine damnit! =)

Here is my first summer shopping haul.

I was at the mall today and I just happened to buy random stuff that just happen to come together for a summer outfit! I swear, I wasn't even trying! lol.  It just seemed like all the shopping came together to form my upcoming summer gear! =)

Okay, so instead of butchering innocent flowers that can only really survive for a day and wilt after, I decided to buy fake flowers to accessorize my hair.  I love to put flowers in my hair as a finishing touch for a nice dinner out or a party.  It just brings the summer vibe into my outfit!  These were $5 cdn for a set of pink and purple at Claire's so I decided to buy two sets =)  I figure, because it's small, I can always put two at a time for a nice hairdo like a bun, you know, for a nice formal-ish evening out.  For the more casual days I randomly want to put a flower on my hair for a nice sideclip, I can just put one pink or one purple =)

It's so summer!

Also, I found this bikini cover from a store at the mall (i'm sorry i'm failing to remember! omg!) It wasn't the cheapest and by comparison to the one I found online at HMS, i found this to be a better deal, being that it's in local currency and sans the shipping!

Isn't the flower print just cute? even the art print looks casual, perfect on the dress!

This was such a fluke! I just happen to be wandering a row of stores, not even wanting to buy anything really, when I saw this cute "bikini cover" tube dress.  I originally wanted the light pink or even the light blue for that matter, but in the end, I thought the hot pink was pretty cute.  I didn't even realize that it matched my flowers! =)

What a coincidence!

So ends my summer shopping.

It goes to show you that a nice walk around the mall can bring about great insipiration, even a motivation for shopping! haha.

I love love love my new summer stuff! I can't wait to rock it SOON!!! I wish Mr. Sun would come out already!!!! =)

Okay, so quick entry here...

Does anyone know where to find a nice trench coat like what Victoria Beckham has here??

Okay so as usual I've been perusing the internet for fashion inspiration from celebrities when I found this one.  I have always loved black and white, even cream coloured clothing.  My wardrobe, in fact, usually has mostly these three shades.  It's sort of a staple in my closet when it comes to my basic go-to colours.

I fell inlove with this coat the moment I laid eyes on it.  OMG, it just screams luxury.  I know this is probably along the price range of about 4 to 5 digits so any cream coloured coat that this inspired would do the trick! I currently have a cream coat, well, 3 already...I just find that one of them has been so over-worn that it looks as if it needs replacing soon.  Like alot of my big purchases, I usually get abit picky about what I buy like my cream coat, leather bomber jacket even my down jacket for winter.  It's only right to be as diligent when replacing my fave baby, my coat (from Zara)!

Anyways, the search just gets harder now that summer is almost here...I'm hoping however, that my next get-away will provide me with an opportunity to get a replacement.  I think I've made my peace with replacing my coat lol.  It's now time to find another luv of my life--err a cream coat i mean haha.

Any ideas!?

I swore to myself I'd try to sleep early tonight, but alas it's not to be i guess...frustrating!

What do I do when I can't sleep!? I blog =)

Okay, so here are my few fave skirts both recent purchases and not...I have a love affair with minis and high waisted skirts...here are my recent closet finds..hopefully I'll find more and post them as well!

White tube top: Le Chateau; White Layered Skirt: BEBE

White Top: Le Chateau; Black & White Skirt: BEBE

Black Tube Top: BEBE; White Layered Skirt: BEBE

Black Tube Top: BEBE; Silver High Waisted Skirt: Le Chateau

Okay, so along with my mild obsession with skirts, I also have a deep luv for black and white (hence my love for all things Classic Chanel).  I find that you are never out of style when going with the classic, crisp colour of black and white.  Don't get me wrong, I do have pops of colour in my wardrobe once in awhile =)

It's approaching summer, and contrary to the weather, it's coming in less than 20 days.  The mini skirts come in handy for night time galavanting in the city with the girlfriends or a hot date with hun.  It's sexy and gives off a sense of clean lines and freshness =)

Happy Spring!~*

my luxe essentials.

beats:: empire state of mind - jay z ft a. keys

OOTD:: my jammies =)

fave fashion accessory of the day/moment:: my jammies =)

Ever so often, along with my beautiful array of dresses, I try to round out my wardrobe with some essential pieces of clothing.  Essentials to me are about as important as the outfits that I wear, since these are pieces that I tend to wear more often and comfort is a must.

More than anything else, essentials are like those behind the scenes articles of clothing that you may only catch a glimpse of underneath a jacket or a sweater, but definitely makes the outfit in more ways than anyone will know...

I love my uber comfy racerback tanktops and my crazy soft tees and even my 3/4 length and long-sleeved shirts.  They are my basic go-to's when I'm wanting to layer or even put something on that I know guaranteed will give me long-lasting comfort and add style to my fashionable outfit.

Normally, my go-to brands switch back between Marciano and BEBE for my tanks...I've collected a not so cheap collection of racerbacks and tees that are super comfy and well worth the pennies I drop for them!  To date, my fave would be my Marciano 'M' Logo tee that's 3/4 length and soooo soft.  OMG its crazy comfy it gets me through a bad workday when I'm not in the mood to be dressed lol.

Lately though, I've reverted back to my less expensive faves, and an oldie fave =)

The tees and tanks at Forever 21 are crazy cheap and great value for the quality!  For tees that are around $6 CDN and around $5 CDN tanktops, how can you go wrong!? It comes in a great variety of styles like spaghetti straps and racerbacks and variety of colours too!

An oldie that I've been reverting back to for some essentials is a store that I've long sworn off.  It's just too much of a kiddie store that all the tweens and teens love to shop at, and having to compete with the kids is not my style.  I have to admit, I do love some of their clothes tho.  I am talking about Aritzia.  Their lines: Wilfred, Talula, TNA and Talula Babaton are great lines that have greatly impressed me the last few seasons.  I am looking forward to their next few season's lines =)

Okay so when I love something, I tend to buy in multiples, that's just how I am! lol.  I love the soft feel of these tanktops, cotton/spandex mix.  I love the light teal colour.  It also comes in a nice yellow and light pink =) It's a great buy for $25 cdn.  I luv luv luv wearing these that I'd buy a few more colours when I get the chance! lol.  I really do love to buy comfy essentials in multiples.  It's nice to have in handy for regular days and even for trips and such!
What are your fave luxe essentials??
