Dior S/S 2010 Magazine Ads

I'm usually not into details when it comes to magazine ads...In fact, most times I try to avoid them as much as possible and flip to the more important (but fewer) pages of the mags with actual fashion content.

This time I stared at the ad pages of two fashion houses using the Iconic figures from Hollywood's past to show off their new Spring/Summer 2010 collection.

The models in the ad from Dior along with the ad from Salvatore Ferragamo seem to resemble Lauren Bacall and Grace Kelly....hmm..

Is it just me, or eeriely close to the iconic stars?  I think both fashion houses were trying to channel the essence of these starlets in their hayday.

MAC Collection: Venomous Villians

Continuing on with the Halloween theme, I checked out the Mac website to update myself on the latest of their products coming in...and wouldn't you know it, they are in the Halloween spirit as well!

Mac cosmetics online

They came out with their Venomous Villians collection....Some of the infamous villians from the Disney Vault--from Cruella to the Evil Queen of Snow White, Maleficent and even Dr. Facilier of The Princess and the Frog!  Lovely villianous colours to choose from, perfect for your Halloween party makeup needs or for any day you feel a little evil! lol.  I don't do makeup tutorials or any reviews, but I just saw some of the products they carry and I thought I'd at least spread the word of their new collection!

Go to the closest Mac store and get your evil face on! =)

Halloween: Playing dress-up never gets old!

Wow, time is going by fast!

In a blink of an eye, September is over and October is just around the corner!

With Oktoberfest beer and bratwurst celebrations come the much-anticipated day for youth and adults alike, Halloween!  I bet just like Christmas, people take a month or even two in advance to plan out the perfect costume for trick-or-treating or for a party!

It's weird how children and younger adolescents prefer to out-scare each other with their costumes and crazy but unique tricks, but in adults, the women tend to try to out-sex each other with naughty costumes while the boys try to oust each other in who would look either more ridiculous or dress up in childhood figures like storm troopers or superheroes like superman or spiderman.  Whatever the choices, it's fun to be someone else entirely for one night....

I guess that's somewhat the allure of dressing up, your imagination comes alive in the costume of your choice...For one night, you don't have to be afraid of being as weird or silly even as scary as you wish.

A reason to err...shop?

Both my mom and brother celebrated double birthdays this month...HBD!

Another delightful surprise to welcome another year older for my brother is finding out that his convocation ceremony for CGA is going to be in November...Congratulations!  The culmination of all that hard work and sleepless nights of homeworks and exams have finally paid off into a designation and the public props to prove it!

Of course my familia and I will be there to cheer him on and witness his graduation...With that being said, it brings me to another quest for an outfit! *yay!* another reason to shop!

Of course my already fully loaded closet isn't without any options...there is nothing wrong with closet shopping before venturing out to buy the perfect convocation ceremony outfit!

I love outfits-shopping for events =)

show and tell: Lovin the tulip style dresses & skirts right now!

To those at work and maybe around the usual watering hole after work, I am known for almost always wearing tailored dresses and skirts--at least by those who are familiar with me.  My work clothes are tailored and neat, tucked and buttoned leaving nothing to hang and drape.  I rarely ever wear something that's asymmetrical or too loose just because I know that being small, it's important to wear pieces that flatter a small figure and not drown it.

Lately however, I've been letting my fashion guard down and trying pieces that are not so tailored--more loose but still strategically draped to flatter my shape.  I still don't want to drown my shape, but choosing pieces that only look as if they are shapeless but actually draped a manner that glides on every curve.

Hence, The belted tulip dress from Forever 21.

Another beautiful dress in my closet =) It combines two of my fave things in a dress, the colour of cream
and the style of the tulip skirt!  It reminds me somewhat of a grecian style dress, draping but still flattering.

I love the soft fabric and the style, the dress is just fabulous!

Food For Thought#3: 'Real or Fake'?

I was at the mall yesterday with the familia, as with most of my sundays and ventured off on my own to browse and maybe run a few errands.  I walked into Off the Wall on a whim, thinking maybe I'll find some nice basics (as I usually do there) to buy for my up-coming trip to Vegas, or at least get ideas on what to bring from my own closet.

A salesperson approached me--a guy, and while this isn't really relevant in most stories, because of what he asked me as a starter conversation it does become relevant.  He says hello, like any polite salesperson does, and of course I aknowledge with a smile and nod then walk on.  He continues to try his chit-chat skills on me by proceeding to ask how my day has been so far, to which I respond with the obligatory 'fine'  standard answer and smile--and continue on walking.

Then he asked that oh-so-sensitive thing that most women (albiet I wasn't offended) would have men dare not ask....'Is your bag real?"  In my head I think, WTF? Did this guy just asked me if my Louis Vuitton Bag is real!?  That's like asking a woman what her true age is! lol.

While I took it in good stride and responded 'Yes..' he continued to dig himself an even bigger hole with '..oh well it's hard to tell most days with girls you know, but you're bag looks nice though!'

uhh...ok buddy.

The point to this story isn't that I got offended.  Because I wasn't--maybe because my bag is real lol.  Guys should be aware that this is one of those hot-button issues that some women may find offensive to be asked--and vice versa.  I'm really generalizing because while I don't find it offensive, there are those that may not feel the same way I do.  I know some women who turn all squinty-frow when people insinuate that their boobs may not be all real or that their hair colour is a dye-job.  It's basically like asking women what their real age is (as i previously mentioned) or if their boobs are real.

Some things should just stay off the dinner table conversation.

Sighting: Dior, doin it up military style!

I love Dior...

As much as the brand always stood for elegance and one of the ultimate chic labels in high fashion, I'm glad that they come down from the glamour and know how to rough it--in style!

Must Have #5: Crochet toque

I recently bought a must-have of mine--perfect timing for fall!

Working for a hat company, it must be so weird for people to find out that I still went ahead and bought a toque, retail! ugh. LOL a crochet toque in Black, it cost me all of $5.80 before tax from Forever 21.

Trend #2: Military style

I've been seeing alot of influence from the military style for designers' fall collection-- namely Burberry Prorsum.  Christopher Bailey is a fashion genius! I loved the military influence in his collection, from his fur lined shearlings to the boots! pure combat fashion heaven.

Sometimes it pays to closet-shop before going to the mall to spend $$$ and ending up in doubles...I've been there, done that and I hate having multiples of something unless I absolutely love it--in that case, I love doubles!

In my rummaging, I've found a military jacket I've long owned, about 3 years now.  It has long since re-appeared back on the trends and I couldn't be more happy! There is nothing better than to hold on to an article of clothing and be vindicated that the years it spent in the closet collecting dust has paid off!

I bought this jacket on sale for I believe $20 at BB Blue.  It resembles this admiral Jacket from Forever 21 that costs $35.80. (fyi, I would never pair a nice cropped military jacket like this with a tattered pair denim shorts...it just doesn't quite go in my opinion...jus sayin.)

I've also recently purchased a long mini obsession of mine since it came out.  The military cargo pants in the skinny version has long caught my eye since it gives a more girlish take to the once baggy cargo pants.

I first saw it from Aritzia, which if you shop there you would know that it's going to cost an arm and a leg (like about 3 bills!) Not quite as easy for a workin' gal like me.  Plus, I'm not one to just buy something expensive and not end up liking it.  I decided to try other alternatives like going from stores like Sirens or Costa Blanca.

I ended up buying a pair from Urban Behavior and I must say, I'm quite happy with it.  I'm not looking for the brand name as much as I'm trying to find the perfect fit for me and what I'm willing to spend for.

It cost me $39.50 plus HST (damn you HST...bane of my existence!).

Long-sleeve Tunics? Love!

beats:: Bruno Mars - Just the way you are

I am so lovin' Bruno Mars and his latest song right now...I can't say that enough =)

*LOL* enough about my song gushing..

I am totally into dresses and tunics with sleeves right now *see post about edaline dress*  I find that we don't always have to show the twins to look sexy...Sometimes even just showing a bit of leg and cover abit more up top is just as appealing in it's own way.

me at Aubar Night Club
This lace tunic is from Forever 21.  It didn't have a slip underneath, so I used a nude slip tankdress underneath it.  I find that the nude against the black lace is alluring and sexy, sort of like showing bare skin against lace.

As previously mentioned, I also have the Edaline Dress which is more conservative but I find just as sexy in its own right.

Fall Trend #1: long-sleeve dresses

The leaves are falling, the mornings are colder and the days get shorter...It's a day away from Fall and I couldn't be happier!

I love Fall!..

I've been checking out the trends for the season, but not new to me, is the return of the long-sleeved dresses.  Fitted tunics or dresses that have longer sleeves...I find that it may eliminate having layers of bulky sweaters when indoors =)

some of my picks...

Marciano:

River Banded Dress
Lyla Dress
Opting for a 3/4 sleeve instead?

Drop Needle Cowl Sweater dress
Trista Tucking Dress
Arden B:

Foil Print Mini Dress

Tribal Pattern off-shoulder Dress

Forever 21:

Draped Knit Dress

Short-sleeved Sweater Dress

Suzy Shier:

Shirred front Keyhole back Dress
Tabbed Button Detailed Dress

So, whether it'd be for work or play, daytime to night, the dresses will show your sexy silhoutte without showing everything! For once, the decouletage is not out for show, focusing on your stems instead ;)

That extra half an inch: insider's guide to fashion a la Victoria Beckham

Ever read that book by that spice girl who had a clothing line? lol.

I can only imagine what people think when they first come across a book written by Mrs. Beckham.

It certainly makes for an interesting thought--what she could possibly write about that would get the public clamoring for her book?

Fashion's night out expands party to lure shoppers

To read more on the goings on of Fashion's Night out 2010, check out this article from the Vancouver Sun!

Fashion's night out expands party to lure shoppers

Fashion's Night Out 2010

Okay, so I'm a big fan of fashion and shopping, and as such I am very--and i mean VERY disappointed that I missed out on NYC Fashion's Night Out 2010.

Actually, happening various places from Las Vegas, Los Angeles to NYC and such countries as Russia, Spain even China (wtf? not in Canada!??)--it was a g.

You can see why I'm disappointed as to not having any events in my home town to celebrate this glorious event! I'm going to have to plan a vacay that's sponsored by FNO next year! lol.

boo, i say.

shopping list #1: abercrombie

I am not a very meticulous person by nature, but once in awhile you will catch me making various lists for things that need to be done, bought and so on.

When I am forming a game plan for say, a trip, I always try to be as prepared as possible.  On the up-coming trip to Sin City of course, what does one have to prepare but some money and stuff that I need or want! =)

I sometimes prepare various things I want for various stores to determine how much budget I have for shopping...as always, it may go over, but there's nothing wrong with being at least a little prepared!

For Abercrombie & Fitch, it was easy...I have often opted out of shopping at A&F when given the opportunity because over the last few seasons I've felt as if I've outgrown the whole cutesy top beach wear style.  I still love it, but it seemed at the time, the styles they had had no place in my wardrobe.  Alas, fall seems to bring in new hope...even for fashion! =)

Here are a few of the things on my 'To-Buy' list!

Celebrity Fashion Lines: Would you buy based on a name?

beats:: absolutely stuck on the song Bruno Mars - Just the way you are.

I recently saw this MTV blog about The City's Whitney Port and her new line debuting at Fashion Week.  She showed her Fall/Winter 2010-11 collection.  Then weeks before that, I see Lauren 'LC' Conrad's new line to debut at Kohl's Department Store.

There is not only this big trend for celebrities to branch out into their own Fashion lines, like Beyonce's 'Dereon' or Nelly's 'Apple Bottoms'.  It's not new--LL Cool J did one with FUBU and P Diddy won awards for his 'Sean John' line.

Nowadays, even reality stars are using the quick rise to fame to promote their side businesses--from energy drinks and liquor to their own clothing lines.  Are they really that great though?

I am a firm believer nowadays that anything I choose to wear, brand name or not, has to be something that suits my taste and personality.  I refuse to back a celeb brand name just because.  Reality stars are no different.  I happen to like Lauren Conrad's style and other celebrities' styles, I just don't necessarily think that admiring a celebrity means you have to buy their fashion line as well.

It's an easy way to promote any side business you may choose, simply because everyone is already watching your every move and your fame will only help any product you promote...I just hope that fans out there will buy what they like and not because of the celebrity brand, much like not buying just because it's a brand name.

I shop in both brand name stores and the cheaper, less luxe counter-parts.  It's great to combine both and make a great outfit out of it...A true fashionista can make both price points work!

Top 5 must-haves for fall/winter 2010

Since I discussed my pure joy for shopping (along with the teens) for clothes during the second-most busy time of the year for retail, I thought I'd discuss the few items I'm looking for at the moment.

Every year, I add on to my existing wardrobe, some of the must-haves of the season that complete my seasonal best look.

I only picked 5 because I don't compile huge lists to buy (that's kind of how you get bankrupt! lol).  I check my wardrobe instead for things that I may really need and add on to it.  I add as the season progresses...

Back-to-school Shopping!

Okay, so I'm not a hormonal teen or an anxious college freshman anymore...I don't have to ritually prepare for school in a way that would require me to make endless lists and stay hours on end in a fit room trying to decide what to buy, where to wear it and how good it will make me look.

I am no longer a teen and therefore back-to-school shopping wouldn't normally apply to me, right?
